Strengthening Scientific Diplomacy with an Emphasis on Cultural Commonalities between Iran and Turkey
According to the Public Relations Department of the University Publishing Center, a joint meeting was held between the University Publishing Center and Dr. Umut Başar, the Education and Scientific Counselor of the Turkish Embassy in Iran, hosted by Dr. Amir Masoud Shahramnia, President of the Center, along with several of its managers.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Shahramnia outlined the history of the University Publishing Center, introducing its strategic capacities and scientific achievements since its establishment. Highlighting the Center’s status as a benchmark for academic publishing in Iran, he announced the Center’s readiness to define joint international projects and exchange technologies related to the field of publishing.
In turn, Dr. Umut Başar described the University Publishing Center’s history in producing authoritative and precise content as invaluable. Emphasizing the deep cultural and historical ties between Iran and Turkey, he noted that strengthening connections between publishing houses and universities can play a significant role in enhancing the scientific level of the region.

During the session, the two parties agreed on the following key areas for future cooperation:
- Holding Joint Events: Implementing specialized courses, workshops, and educational webinars in the fields of research and publishing.
- Language Diplomacy and Iranian Studies: Emphasizing joint efforts to preserve the Persian language and conducting synergy programs in Iranian studies, given the interest of the Turkish scientific community.
- Publishing Exchanges: Collaborating on the reverse translation and publication of academic reference books from Persian to Turkish and vice versa.
- Participation in International Exhibitions: Planning for active and joint presence at the Tehran and Istanbul Book Fairs to introduce academic publishing achievements.
- Connecting with Top Turkish Universities: Facilitating communication between the University Publishing Center and major academic publishers and universities in Turkey.
- Digital Content Production: Collaborating on e-book platforms and joint scientific databases.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties expressed hope that this session would mark the beginning of drafting and signing a comprehensive memorandum of understanding for scientific and publishing cooperation, leveraging the vast human and research capital available for the near future.
